I am a Queer-identified therapist with over 20 years of experience working with diverse LGBTQ+ identified individuals. I am a seasoned clinician and administrator, and I am happiest when I can utilize both aspects of my training. My background is in LGBTQ+ community mental health, where I have served as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and Outpatient Clinic Director.
Clinical Supervision & Consultation
I have over 16 years of experience providing clinical & programmatic supervision to:
LCSW, LMSW, & LMHC clinicians
Case Managers, Harm Reduction Counselors, HIV Counselors & Testers and other Social Service Support Staff
Directors of Mental Health, Community Health, and Case Management programs
I provide weekly & bi-weekly, group supervision to client-facing/front line staff.
I also offer programmatic support to non-profits and can assist with program startup, senior staff on-boarding and quality improvement projects. Recent topics for which I offered program support include:
Electronic Health Record Implementation & Workflow Improvement
New York State, Outpatient Mental Health (Article 31) Regulatory Compliance
Program redesign and implementation
My style is warm, active, and authentic. Starting therapy is hard, so my priority is for you to feel relaxed, understood, and comfortable in early sessions. I welcome laughter and questions in therapy. With a background in LGBTQ+ public health, I am sensitive to the challenges and stressors that come with living outside cisgender/hetero norms.
I tend to be a good fit for people looking to address core negative beliefs, or taking a big step in life - like starting social/physical transition or becoming an LGBTQ+ parent. I frequently use EMDR (an evidenced-based treatment) to help clients feeling "stuck," anxious, or looking to resolve trauma or painful relationship patterns. In addition, I incorporate the following approaches in my work:
Motivational Interviewing & Harm Reduction
Subjugated Knowledge - valuing the wisdom and skills we possess from not fitting into the dominant culture
I am an Out of Network provider with the "R" priviliege.
Over the course of my career I have trained thousands of clinical and non-clinical staff on a range of topics including:
Transgender Clinical and Cultural Competency
Informed Consent Model of Care for People of Transgender Experience
Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing Techniques w/LGBTQ community
Mental Health First Aid
Best practices in Contracting, Treatment Planning & Closing with clients.
I tailor training materials and format to each audience and am available for topic-specific or on-going training initiatives.
